Pathologists from Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust (CHFT) are hosting a special exhibition at Eureka! The National Children’s Museum in Halifax on Tuesday 20th and Thursday 22nd June as part of National Pathology Week, which runs from 19 - 25 June 2023.

Pathology is the study of how illnesses and diseases work and how they affect the people that have them. The Pathology team will be inviting children visiting Eureka! to get hands-on and learn about the importance of pathology through playful activities, including:

  • Play with blood in blood bags (don’t worry, it’s not real)
  • Learn where different kinds of bugs hide on the body
  • Dress up as laboratory staff
  • Learn about worms and the importance of handwashing
  • Practice pipetting into test tubes
  • Look down a microscope at different tissue types
  • Examine faecal samples (again, it’s not real)

Anu Rajgopal, Clinical Director of Pathology at CHFT, said: “We are so excited to be here at Eureka! this week helping to inspire the next generation of pathologists.

“We’re often an unseen part of the NHS, but we’re hoping that through this exhibition children and their families gain an understanding of the important work of our teams and maybe even think about a career in pathology in the future.”

Jenny Parker, Play and Learning Manager at Eureka! said: “It’s great to have the CHFT team at Eureka! this week. With Calderdale Royal just up the road, it’s been wonderful to partner with a local organisation to help inspire local youngsters to learn about the fascinating science of pathology.”
