The team was formed in April 2015 to undertake the school based immunisation programme within Calderdale. The team offer the following vaccinations; Year 1, 2 & 3 – Nasal Flu, Year 8 girls – HPV Cervical Cancer, Year 9 – Diptheria, Tetanus, Polio & Meningitis ACWY & Year 11 – Meningitis ACWY.
They have had a very successful first year meeting and exceeding all the national targets set by Public Health England; 60% uptake for Nasal Flu and 90% uptake for all other immunisations.
The majority of immunisations are carried out in school however the team also offer clinic appointments for those who can’t be vaccinated in school and have also offered home visits to ensure that as many children as possible are vaccinated.
The team have also set up a service to offer Flu vaccinations to school staff. Last year staff in seven Calderdale schools were vaccinated, and the team are hoping to increase those numbers for this coming year.
