Macmillan’s big win

The Macmillan Information and Support Team, along with our Lead Cancer Nurse* have only gone and won a national Macmillan Professionals Excellence Award!

They won the “Whatever It Takes” category. It recognised their contribution during the pandemic, offering crucial virtual support to cancer patients, from diagnosis through to end of life and for co-designing virtual education programmes with and for patients.

Macmillan Information Centre Manager, Helen Jones, said: “It's great that a non-clinical service can be recognised for its crucial contribution to patient wellbeing. I am so proud of my amazing team who always go above and beyond, and I thank Christopher for nominating us – we owe him a pint or six! But the best thing since the win is the amazing feedback from our patient reps. Read them below. They brought a tear to my eye!”

Ron Husband, second left: “To the most modest, dedicated and gracious team that I have ever had the pleasure and pride to work with, be involved with and supported by. Many, many congratulations on your well-deserved win.  So proud of you all for the acknowledgement of your support, dedication and guidance that you freely give to people at one of the most traumatic and challenging times of one's life. Truly well done”.

David Blunt, third right: “Winning a trophy is fabulous and well deserved but we patients are the ones that are the winners and it’s the support, dedication and guidance that is so freely given when it is needed the most that makes you all winners in our eyes.”
