Our Trust like many others and many care homes in the region is currently experiencing high levels of cases of norovirus (also known as winter vomiting bug)
It’s usually around in our communities in small numbers all year round but at the moment – not helped by this mild spell – it certainly seems to very prevalent and numbers have spiked.
As a result we have patients currently on several wards at both Hospitals with the confirmed illness. These patients have to be isolated wherever they can and our cleaning and disinfecting is at heightened levels to ensure it is as good as it can be.
The pressure on our staff is huge yet we would also like to highlight the role our visitors can play to help us get on top of the situation.
· Basically if you have had it then don’t visit – if possible - unless you are clear of symptoms for 48 hours.
· This year, as it is prevalent amongst schoolchildren we would also advice if possible not to bring youngsters in.
· Always use the hand-washes available before coming in and before leaving the wards.
