"Saving lives by day and trees by night" - our mobility aid recycling scheme is helping save the planet

Just before Christmas, our therapy teams launched the Mobility Aid Recycling Scheme which aimed to promote the recycling of mobility aids no longer needed by patients.

More than 400 aids have been returned and recycled in just three months. That's a cost saving of more than £6,000 and a carbon emissions saving of more than 15 tonnes - the same as planting 600 trees!

By building this scheme into their everyday work, our therapy teams are helping to save on waste and contribute to protecting our planet.

Therapy Services Manager, Sally Grose, said: "It's lovely to see the impact we can have on patient care and the environment."

Therapy Assistant, Razeenah Patel added: "We're saving lives by day and trees by night!"

Allied Health Professionals Clinical Educator, Arley Byrne, said: "Not only has this initiative saved people from tripping over unwanted frames, but it has also helped the planet too. This could not be achieved without the team's hard work, in collecting and cleaning the items, and I am hugely grateful for this."
