Staff raise £1,500 to fund new equipment for patient engagement therapy

Our staff on Ward 20, one our wards who care for elderly patients, have raised more than £1,500 for new resources, tools and storage to enhance the experience of their patients.

Over the Christmas period and for Valentine's Day, colleagues made kind donations which the team have put into hampers. The money raised has funded those extra special touches for their patients. These include, Christmas presents, fluffy blankets (for those patients who feel the cold or are at end of life), toiletries, and some personal items such as newspapers. Items such as this mean that the engagement support team on the ward can provide meaningful stimulation for patients during their hospital stay.

The team have also been able to buy arts and craft items, board and activity games, and hair and beauty items. They are also buying some new CD players for patients to so they can enjoy listening to their music of choice.

The new resources will be used by the five Engagement Support Workers to deliver regular programs of activity based on specific patient groups who are on the ward at that time which will be led by the interests and choices of patients. These might include activities such as flower arranging, arts and crafts or board games.

Ward Manager, Amy Scholes, said: "Our focus around patient engagement therapy is to achieve a positive experience for all our patients. It is part of our work to improve quality and deliver person-centred care, and making sure we are providing stimulating and engaging activities that our patients want to participate in. Thank you to everyone who helped to fundraise, it will make a huge difference!"
