Our inpatient services covers both Calderdale and Huddersfield Sites

Ward 4 @ Huddersfield Royal Infirmary:

The Paediatric Team

Welcome to the Paediatric Inpatient team at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. Our nursing staff on the ward work within the Paediatric Team, and work with surgeons. anaesthetists, and paediatric doctos. We have support from the Play Team on the ward. 

What we do:

At Huddersfield, we look after children and young people who require acute or planned surgical interventions including:

  • Orthopaedic Care
  • Urology Care
  • General Surgical Care
  • Maxillofacial Care

We also see ward attenders and run day case lists that include blood tests, scans, and allergy testing. 

Where we are based:

Ward 4 at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary is on the 2nd floor. When you arrive at the main entrance, turn right and walk past the shop and pharmacy, carry on right down the corridor until you get to the elevators and stairs. Go up to the 2nd floor and once there, you will see signs for Ward 4 which is through the double doos and past Cardiology Outpatients. You will need to press the button next to the door to be allowed access to the ward for safety reasons. 

Facilities:

There is a canteen which is based on the sub-basement floor following signs for Spice of Life. There is also a Costa Coffee Case and a shop on the ground floor reception area.

We have a Play Team that can help provide activities to keep your child entertained throughout their stay on the ward.

Parking is available and throughout your stay on the Children's Ward, you can get a parking permit, so you don't have to pay to park, just ask one of the members of staff and they will provide this for you. 

There is access to family and friends cards on the ward, these can be filled out to give us feedback about your experience on the ward and these can be left in the designated post boxes on the ward or can be posted in a normal post box if you have already left the ward.

Ward 3 @ Calderdale Royal Hospital:

The Paediatric Team:

Welcome to the Paediatric Inpatient Ward at Calderdale Royal Hospital. We are a team of multidisciplinary staff comprising of: 

Doctors, Ward Managers, Advanced Paediatric Nurse Practitioners, Sisters, Staff Nurses, Nursing Associates, Specialist Nurses, Student Nurses & Trainee Nursing Associates, Health Care Assistants, Play Team, House Keepers, Ward Clerks and Volunteers. 

We also liaise with other specialist teams when needed, such as dietitians, CAMHS, surgeons, or specialists from tertiary centres such as Oncology. 

What we do: 

At Calderdale, we look after both acutely sick and long term service uses and their families, and also run inpatient sugical procedures and day case outpatient tests. We have an assessment unit adjacent to the ward with assessment and treatment areas. On the ward, we have inpatient beds including two high dependency beds, with a mixture of bays and single cubicles, mostly with en-suite facilities. We also have the facilities to care for Children & Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) patients. The ward is split into 4 pods where we generally try and group patient needs:

  • 3A - Paediatric Assessment Unit
  • 3B - High Dependency & General Medical Care
  • 3C - Complex Care and General Medical Care
  • 3D - Day Surgery & General Medical Care

We encourage a parent/guardian to be resident on the ward who can stay overnight with their child, and can accommodate visitors, to ensure we deliver shared family-centred care. 

Where we are based: 

Ward 3 at Calderdale Royal is on the 2nd floor. When you arrive at the main entrance, go up the elevator next to reception, to the 2nd floor, when you come out of the elevator, turn right and you will see the Children's Ward. You will need to press the button next to the door to be allowed access to the ward for safety reasons. 

Facilities: 

We have a parent's room wher eparents can take time away from the clinical areas, make themselves a tea or coffee, and use the fridge and microwave facilities to eat a meal.

We have toilets with baby changing and showering facilities around the ward. There is a private room that can be used to breastfeed if needed.

We have a teenage room that can be used for long term patients who want to relax, there is access to TV's and games. We have play areas for younger patients, including a messy room and sensory corner, and our play team can help provide lots of fun activities and things to do at the bedside. 

There is access to the canteen on the ground floor which is open throughout the day. There is also WHSmiths and a coffee shop located just after reception. 

Parking is available and throughout your stay on the Children's Ward, you can get a parking permit so you don't have to pay to park. Just ask one of the members of staff and they will provide this for you.
